Monday, August 25: At 2 pm today, the “After the Jump” festival will kick off with 13 bands, including Bling Kong (pictured), DJs and surprise guests, all to benefit music education in New York City. The daytime show is free, but the nighttime party is a fund-raiser, so cough it up if you want to still be seeing live music in 10 years.

Tuesday, August 26: If you don’t have cable, Sunday nights can be the pits. Comic Sara Schaefer (pictured) has the answer to your end of the weekend boredom, though, with her “Name That Tune” party at Union Hall. Live music, comedians and prizes are a heck of a lot better than your other plans — besides, the Laundromat will still be there tomorrow.

Wednesday, August 27: He might not throw the book at you, but tonight at Rocky Sullivan’s in Red Hook, District Attorney Charles Hynes will read it. The DA is heading over to the nabe’s newest bar to read from his first novel, “Triple Homocide,” which follows two generations of New York cops.

Saturday, August 30: The summer’s almost over, so what better way to welcome autumn than the CasHank Hootenanny Jamboree, a country music free for all? Get into the down home spirit with a performance by the American String Conspiracy (pictured). If you’re not content just listening, you can sign up and join in.

Sunday, August 31: We’ve all got our own ideas about what the borough looks like depending on where we live, work and hang out. Check out the “My Brooklyn” exhibit at the BPL — today’s its last day — to see how 30+ artists, including first-prize winner Carmen Zeng (work pictured), see the borough.
