Scenester citizens
Sunday, September 2: Sebadoh, who burnt up college radio in the ’90s, are bringing their act back on the road to show kids these days how it’s really done. We’ve got fond memories of the “Smash Your Head on the Punk Rock” album, but are worried that at our age, we might pull something if we tried.
7 pm at Europa (98-104 Meserole Ave., at Manhattan Avenue in Greenpoint). $20. For information, call (718) 383-5723 or visit

Island fest
Monday, September 3: By September, we’ve had our fill of backyard barbeques. This Labor Day, head over to Eastern Parkway for the 40th annual West Indian American Day Carnival, where you can taste food from the Caribbean, dance to the steel drums and feel like you’ve traveled the world without leaving Brooklyn.
11 am at Utica Avenue and Eastern Parkway in Crown Heights. Free. For information, call (718) 467-1797 or visit

A literary movement
Wednesday, September 5: Local author Dave Praeger has his mind in the gutter — literally. His book, “Poop Culture,” chronicling the history of the flushable commode has just been released, and tonight he’s talking about it at the Park Slope Barnes and Noble. It might not be the most highbrow book of the season, but is probably perfect for bathroom reading.
7:30 pm at Barnes and Noble (267 Seventh Ave., at Sixth Street in Park Slope). Free. For information, call (718) 832-9066.
Irish flicks
Thursday, September 6: Tonight at the powerHouse Arena, the annual Craic Festival of Irish culture is holding a one-night event. Films by Brooklynites of Irish descent will be screened and local Irish bands (as well as a special musical guest Laura Izibor, straight from the Emerald Isle) will provide the music while you enjoy the free drinks.
7 pm at powerHouse Arena (37 Main St. at Water Street in DUMBO). Free, but $10 suggested donation. For information, call (212) 604-9074 x 100 or visit

Drawn to it
Friday, September 7: Drop into our favorite Red Hook art spot, Lucky Gallery, and take in “Buddha Luck,” the new show featuring artists Mary DeVincentis and Roxanne Bohana (pictured) exploring the themes of Buddhism through their prints and paintings. And if you don’t find your bliss there, head over to Fairway — they carry everything.
6 pm–9 pm at Lucky Gallery (176 Richards St., at Wolcott Street in Red Hook). Free. For information, call (718) 852-9232.
