In a ‘Brush’
Saturday, November 3: In celebration of its new exhibit, “Brushed with Light: American Watercolors from the Collection,” the Brooklyn Museum is throwing a party with swing dancing, movies and a chance to create your own watercolors. It’s the easiest way to have your own paintings in the Museum!
6 pm at the Brooklyn Museum (200 Eastern Pkwy. at Washington Avenue in Prospect Heights). Free. For information, call (718) 638-5000 or visit
www.brooklynmuseum.org.
Military brass
Sunday, November 4: This afternoon, the United States Military Academy Band — West Point’s in-house act for 190 years — will play a free concert at Brooklyn Center. Be sure not to talk during the performance, people, because all 48 members of this band are trained in combat.
3 pm at Brooklyn Center for the Performing Arts at Brooklyn College (one block from the junction of Nostrand and Flatbush avenues). Free. For information, call (718) 951-4600 or visit

Super slides
Tuesday, November 6: Check out a slideshow of photos from “The Brooklynites,” Seth Kushner and Anthony LaSala’s photographic love letter to the borough tonight at Word Bookstore. Kushner shot everyone from Steve Buscemi (pictured) to Coney Island Sideshow’s Dick Zigun, so head over and convince the boys to put your mug in their next book.
7:30 pm at Word Bookstore (126 Franklin St. at Milton Street in Greenpoint). Free. For information, call (718) 383-0096 or visit

Guys & galas
Wednesday, November 7: The Brooklyn Academy of Music celebrates its 25th Next Wave Festival tonight with Finland’s Tero Saarinen dance company and a big, fancy gala at the 7 World Trade Center building in Lower Manhattan. Sure it’s pricey — two tickets will set you back $300 — but for cocktails, dinner, a show and a taste of Hollywood without leaving Brooklyn, it’s worth the splurge.
6 pm at the Brooklyn Academy of Music (30 Lafayette Ave. at Ashland Place in Fort Greene). $200 and up. For information, call (718) 636-4100 or visit www.bam.org.
‘Battel’ of Brooklyn
Friday, November 9: Are you bored with rock shows? If your nightlife needs a shot in the arm, tonight’s Kaiju Big Battel performance is just the thing. Watch as giant monsters, battle in an epic struggle for the fate of the world. It’s a bit like a live action “Godzilla” movie, and you can bet we’ll be there with a drink in hand.
8 pm at the Warsaw (261 Driggs Ave. at Eckford Street in Greenpoint). $20. For information, call (718) 387-0505 or visit
