Gravy train
Saturday, January 26: The New York Transit Museum and “gustatory sherpa” Todd Coleman present a tour of restaurants along the L and M trains with “The L to the Mmmmm Train,” a culinary tour that hits Sicilian, Mexican and German restaurants, among others, that give the borough its tasty flavor.
11 am. $45, $40 for members, and reservations are required. Contact the New York Transit Museum at (718) 694-1867 for reservations and route information.
Byrne ‘Treatment’
Monday, January 28: Tonight on HBO, catch the premiere of “In Treatment,” a new series starring Brooklyn Heights resident, and brooding Irish dreamboat, Gabriel Byrne. The show, which features Byrne as a psychiatrist, will air a different episode each day — five nights in a row — giving viewers a chance to observe each of the patient’s sessions.
A new leaf
Tuesday, January 29: Now in its 12th year, the Brooklyn Botanic Garden’s “Plant-O-Rama” will feature 45 vendors, attracting over 1,000 green-thumbed revelers. Stop in to check out vintage plant catalogues and presentations from superstar horticulturists, and start thinking about what you’ll plant in your own garden as spring gets closer.

Rhyme time
Thursday, January 31: This month’s installment of Brooklyn Reading Works, which is like a much cooler version of a regular old book club, is called “Word Girls,” and will feature readings from poets Barbara Crooker, pictured, Meredith Davies Hadaway and others. And, if inspiration strikes, there will be an open mic afterwards, so audience members can share their own work.
8 pm at the Old Stone House (336 Third St. at Fifth Avenue in Park Slope). Free. For information, visit brooklynreadingworks.com.
Newsom’s new gig
Friday, February 1: Joanna Newsom sent shivers through the borough’s audiophile scene when booked a show with the Brooklyn Philharmonic, but it sold out in a flash. Newsom has added tonight’s show, so if you’re still searching for tickets, this is your last chance.
8 pm at the Brooklyn Academy of Music’s Howard Gilman Opera House (30 Lafayette Ave. at Ashland Place in Fort Greene). $25-$55. For information, call (718) 636-4100 or visit
