Hero worship
Saturday, November 15: One hundred years ago, President-elect Taft attended the dedication of a monument to the 15,000 Americans who died on British prison ships during the Revolutionary War. President-elect Obama has been invited, but even if he doesn’t show, this will be a great day to honor Brooklyn’s history.
Noon–7 pm. Prison Ships Martyrs Monument (Fort Greene Park, enter at Myrtle Avenue between Washington Park and North Portland Avenue). For info, visit

Mic’d up
Sunday, November 16: Now here’s an afternoon of frolicsome mirth! Poet Janice Brabaw, whose collection “Universe Disturbed” is self-described as a memoir of growing up as an “obese, depressed teenager,” will be hosting an open mic afternoon with her fellow “poets, writers, spoken word acts and acoustic musicians.” Good news? There’s Bingo after!

The big city
Tuesday, November 18: Ever get the feeling, as you call Vienna on your cellphone, that the whole world is just one long metropolis? So did the writers of “Continuous City,” a multi-media exploration of our era that ranges from Shanghai to L.A. to Mexico City. Catch it tonight through Saturday.

Black is right

Puppet mistresses
Saturday, November 22: Not since “SUV: The Musical” has a show title told you pretty much what you’re going to get. And “Sluty Puppets” does more that that, featuring mannekins in a series of ribald positions (pictured). This week’s episode features Michael Ziegfield and his parrot puppet, Willie Swallow. You get the idea.
8 pm. Galapagos Art Space [16 Main St. at Water Street in DUMBO, (718) 222-8500]. $7.
