BAZAAR BENEFIT

The Brooklyn Paper
The Baltic Bazaar store on Atlantic Avenue is hosting a festive bash to thank its donors and the public is invited to join the celebration.

The Baltic Bazaar Bash, on Oct. 27 from 6:30 pm to 9 pm, will feature food, drink, crafts, a corner for decorating masks or hats (just in time for Halloween), a fabric art performance emceed by a comedian, a jazz trio and a silent auction, said Dana Anthony, executive director of the Baltic Street Mental Health Board, the agency that operates the shop.

Proceeds from the silent auction - which offers temptations such as pillows, pins and more goods sold at the store as well as one-of-a-kind items made by people who teach craft classes there - will benefit the 12-year-old shop, which is a work training site for those recovering from mental illness.

"When we started out at 250 Baltic St. we had a budget of $3,000 and now the Baltic Street Mental Health Board has a $3.2 million budget to offer support services for the mentally ill," said Anthony. "The Baltic Bazaar is one of the agency’s programs. It serves the dual purpose of offering creative opportunities for the community and helps people to get training and get back to work."

Return to the Baltic Bazaar another day to sign up for a class in crocheting, embroidery, felting, knitting or sewing or to shop at this boutique, where luxurious textiles, trims, exotic yarns, buttons and other notions are sold both by the pound and by the piece.

The Baltic Bazaar Bash, at 141 Atlantic Ave. between Henry and Clinton streets in Brooklyn Heights, is free and open to the public. Open Tuesdays through Sundays. For more information about the bash, call (718) 855-5929 or visit www.balticbazaar.com.
