If you want to celebrate Cinco de Mayo
in style, head to Lobo restaurant. To commemorate Mexican independence
day (and introduce their new Tex-Mex menu), owners Sean Patterson
and David Schneider are offering a $19.95 prix-fixe dinner. The
three-course special includes an appetizer, such as grilled jumbo
shrimp with tequila sauce or chicken quesadillas with mole poblano;
a main course, such as chicken-fried steak or BBQ ribs and chicken;
and one of their homemade desserts, such as vanilla flan, churros
or Mexican brownies. They’re all tweaked with bold flavors and
a Texas twist. Wash it all down with $3 Coronas.
But before ordering, though, definitely imbibe one of Lobo’s
celebrated infused tequila drinks (pictured). Made from Partida-estate
tequila, Patterson offers tequilas with ginger, strawberry, jalapeno,
cinnamon, and ancho chile infusions. The most-popular drink is
the blood orange Margarita.
Lobo has two locations - one in Cobble Hill and one in Park Slope
- and Partida representatives will give away Cinco de Mayo goodies
at both.
The Court St. location will be opening its garden on May 1. Patterson
believes his restaurants are popular among both celebrities (Boerum
Hillers Heath and Michelle, and Slopers Jennifer and Paul have
been in) and non-celebrities because "It’s not a ’scene’
just a comfortable place." No matter who shows up, his focus
is on the food.
