del.icio.usOur pal Helen Selsdon’s little anti-war walk this Sunday has become a bona-fide march.
What started as a word-of-mouth, tape-flyers-to-the-lampposts effort by a lone Cobble Hill single mother has now become Brooklyn’s premier place to rally against President’s Bush’s four-year-old war in Iraq.
Hundreds — including two members of Congress — are expected at the march, which begins at 1 pm at Cobble Hill Park and will proceed to Grand Army Plaza in Park Slope for a rally.
After being written up in The Brooklyn Paper two weeks ago, Selsdon’s one-woman campaign was dubbed a “Don’t Miss” event by Time Out New York. Then, Reps. Yvette Clarke (D–Park Slope) and Nydia Velazquez (D–Brooklyn Heights) vowed to be there.
True, Selsdon’s daughter is still on the fence about the march — would even 15,000 marching Brooklynites actually change our misguided policy in Washington? — but Selsdon clings to the notion that sometimes you just have to walk the walk.
One more thing: Selsdon wants kids to bring tamborines and drums. They may not hear you in Washington, but Sen. Chuck Schumer will hear you in his Prospect Park West apartment!
