A drunk driver rammed his SUV into a building on Atlantic Avenue early Sunday morning, totaling the car and seriously injuring one of his passengers, a two-year-old boy, police said.
Bronx resident Efrain Chiclana came off the Brooklyn–Queens Expressway at Atlantic Avenue around 4 am on Sunday, and crashed into the front window of the Atlantic Peritoneal Dialysis Home Training Center near Hicks Street in Brooklyn Heights.
Luckily the building was unoccupied and Chiclana’s other passenger, a 22-year-old woman, was uninjured.
The young boy was taken to Long Island College Hospital for treatment, and Chiclana was arrested for DWI.
“I was locking up when I heard the screeching and the crash,” said Joe Montero, the owner of Montero’s Bar and Grill a few doors down from the Dialysis Center. “The impact made the entire block rumble. He just flew off the highway.”
