Smell that

Even though the Manhattan-based perfumer Bond No. 9 announced its “Coney Island” scent this week, Boerum Hill resident Emilio Oribe thinks his nose knows best. In fact, Oribe’s “Eau de Brooklyn” line of perfume and scented soaps could change minds about the scent of the borough one nostril at a time.

“Most people think it’s hilarious because they have this horrible idea about Brooklyn,” Oribe told GO Brooklyn, showing off a bar with the light smell of tea and bergamot — a small but strongly-scented citrus fruit. “They imagine the worst type of smell coming out of it, but it’s rather pleasing.”

Oribe and his 10-year-old daughter began developing the line last year with the scents of local parks and gardens as inspiration.

Designed to be given gifts, the bars and tins of soap and the perfume spray, which come hand packaged, are meant to be a more personal piece of the borough.

“It’s so much better than a plastic Brooklyn Bridge,” sniffed Oribe.
