All ages

for The Brooklyn Paper

Can they still call it a nightclub if you’re going in the afternoon? On May 13, Union Hall — the increasingly popular Park Slope nightspot that normally has a 21-plus policy — will open its doors at 1:30 pm for an all-ages record release party for Canadian rockers Shapes and Sizes.

“It sucks when people can’t get into music because they aren’t old enough,” drummer Jon Crellin told GO Brooklyn. “The purpose of the [all-ages] format is to encourage equal opportunity music enjoyment.”

The quartet will be performing material from their new album, “Split Lips, Winning Hips, A Shiner,” out later this month on Asthmatic Kitty, crooner Sufjan Stevens’s record label.

Shapes and Sizes play at 1:30 pm on May 13 at Union Hall (702 Union St., at Fifth Avenue in Park Slope). For information, call (718) 638-4400 or visit www.unionhallny.com.
