Readers may remember the last time Bensonhurst’s Paulie Malignaggi was in a title bout: he ended up on the receiving end of a hook from Miguel Cotto and on our front page under the headline, “Duck, Paulie, duck!”
He lost that fight, but tonight, he’ll be at Mohegan Sun with a plan to redeem himself (and all of Brooklyn) against IBF Junior Welterweight champ Lovemore N’dou.
Over a steak at a pre-fight press conference at Gallagher’s this week, Malignaggi said he wouldn’t have been one fight away from a title if it wasn’t for his old neighborhood.
“I love Bensonhurst and I just want to thank them for their support throughout the years,” he told The Brooklyn Paper. “I’m going to repay them by bringing a world championship home. I’m doing to do it for Brooklyn.”
