Email Alerts RSS FeedsModels may have strutted down the runway wearing “H. Fredriksson” designs during last week’s celebrity-studded New York Fashion Week, but the label’s designer was more inspired by her own Brooklyn neighborhood than the glitz and glamour that informed other collections.
Helena Fredriksson’s Spring 2008 line — about 50 separate pieces — is a bit of a throwback, with distressed, sun-bleached fabrics and vintage crocheted lace she collected for over a year and designed in her live/work loft.
“It’s using something old to create something new and modern with it,” Fredriksson told GO Brooklyn.
The designer, who has lived in a converted doll factory on the Williamsburg waterfront for 11 years, recognized the common thread between her spring line and her neighborhood.
“This neighborhood has gone through tremendous change since I moved here,” she said. “It’s a constant reinvention of old things.”
