Eat to the beat

When the Charcuterie Deli closed last year after 20 years, its owner, Michel Issa, decided that what he needed was more.

So he packed up his meats and moved across Flatbush Avenue to open Mitchell’s, where visitors might be surprised to venture back behind the red curtains and find a full-blown restaurant.

“We started off as an Italian delicatessen and had a lot of success in that area, but at the same time we wanted to expand,” Issa told GO Brooklyn.

And in addition to adding space, he added character. On Thursdays through Sundays, Issa brings in live jazz, hoping to establish his spot as a neighborhood hangout.

“We are a very classy restaurant, we live in the neighborhood and we know jazz and blues are very influential here, that’s what people want.”

Mitchell’s Bar and Grill (259 Flatbush Ave., at Sixth Avenue in Prospect Heights) is open seven days a week from 7 am–midnight. For information, call (718) 484-4114 or visit www.mitchellsbarandg....
