Bay Ridge Key Food to close

Shoppers in the southern part of Bay Ridge will be left with just one supermarket thanks to the imminent closure of the Key Food on Third Avenue.

“I’m very upset,” said Ruth Bedell, on hearing that the supermarket at the corner of 95th Street will become a Walgreens drug store.

“There were only two supermarkets on this end [of the neighborhood]. The lines at Food Town [on 90th Street] will be really long!”

A store manager, who was ironically standing in front of a “Certificate of Appreciation” from state Sen. Marty Golden, refused to talk, telling a Brooklyn Paper reporter to call the company’s office in Long Island. That call was not returned.

Golden spokesman John Quaglione said the pain would not only be felt by shoppers.

“The store supported our Halloween walk and our summer concert series,” he said.
