Alison Kelly shot to fame as a contestant on the third season of the reality-fashion series “Project Runway,” but the Williamsburg resident is still thinking locally.
On May 8, Kelly introduced an exclusive collection — under the Dahl label — of 24 women’s tops, dresses and skirts, ranging from $68 camisoles to $148 dresses.
“I wanted the clothes to look like they could be found in a vintage store in Paris, but I wanted them to look modern as well,” Kelly told GO Brooklyn.
She developed the collection — which is available at Alter, a Greenpoint boutique — with what she called, “[an] overlying theme: two birds kissing,” a motif that appears in many of her pieces, including a black dress with hand-crocheted detailing (top) that is one of the most popular items so far.
“Everyone loves her stuff,” said Tommy Cole, Alter’s co-owner. He described the clothing as “feminine, but not girly” and “minimal in the color palette.”
Kelly, who also designs jewelry under the name “Dahl & Dane” — which is sometimes available at Fort Greene’s Brooklyn Flea (Lafayette Avenue, between Clermont and Vanderbilt avenues, on Sundays) and, starting next month, at And Then Some (103 Bond St., between Atlantic Avenue and Pacific Street, in Boerum Hill) — might not have taken home the grand prize while she was on TV, but her collection will earn her high scores with fashionistas across the borough.
“I don’t try to follow trends or make anything disposable,” said Kelly. “I try to make things you want to keep forever, because you know [they’re] special.”
Alter (109 Franklin St. at Greenpoint Avenue in Greenpoint) accepts MasterCard, American Express and Visa. The store is open Tuesday through Friday, from 1 pm to 9 pm, Saturdays, from noon to 9 pm, and Sundays, from noon to 8 pm. Closed Mondays.
