Editor-of-the-year Gersh Kuntzman stymied Mike McLaughlin’s nascent search for love and shelter this week by sandbagging him with a news assignment that crushed the senior reporter’s Thursday night plans for socializing and mingling with friends and acquaintances. The hardened “editor of the year” defended his actions, saying the assignment — another meeting of the fledgling Fort Greene and Clinton Hill food co-op — was too momentous to ignore. “Your social life, while of vital interest to our readers, will always take a backseat to our news mission,” said the irascible Kuntzman. Though momentarily deterred from his pursuit of a new apartment and active social life, McLaughlin was optimistic that he could make the most of the upcoming weekend. “The weekend is my oyster,” McLaughlin said. “I’ll see you on Monday morning, everybody.” Watch the pair battle it out in this exclusive podcast — and come back to BrooklynPaper.com on Monday to see how Mike’s weekend went.
