Lots of bike thefts

for The Brooklyn Paper

Bicycle thieves

Thieves stole a woman’s bike from a rack on Eastern Parkway on Aug. 30.

The victim had locked her bike, worth about $400, at a seemingly secure place between Classon and Underhill Avenues, using both a regular lock and a chain.

But neither proved a great obstacle to the bike-napper, who clipped the chain and made off with the wheels at about 5 pm.

Another bike thief stole a two-wheeler in front of a home on St. Marks Avenue between Carlton and Vanderbilt Avenues overnight on Aug. 28. The victim noticed the crime the next morning at 7:30 am.

The 24-year-old told cops that she had secured her bike in her front yard. The two-wheeler was worth $200.

Take it EZ

A man’s EZ pass and gas company credit card were stolen from his hybrid car’s window overnight on Aug. 23.

The man told cops that he had parked his car on Eastern Parkway between Vanderbilt and Classon Avenues that evening, and came back the next morning to find the valuable cards missing.

The case becomes perplexing when police found that no glass had been broken, and no damage done to any locks on the vehicle.

Rita from Park Slope says:
I had my bike and my husband's bike stolen yesterday in Park Slope! I couldn't believe it as we just moved to Brooklyn and it never happened to us in Queens! The bikes were stolen during the day in the Lincoln Place, between 7th and 6th Avenues. This is a shame! I also have to make a comment...since I moved a week ago i have never seen even one police car in that area, as I used to see many times a day in Queens. What's going on in this neighborhood?

My bike was stolen last night from a bike rack at the corner of hanson place and south elliot. It was a vintage silver fiorelli 10 speed road bike. Just got it out the shop last week and only rode it a few times.

My wifes bike was recently stolen, from right in front of our building during the early evening. We think we may have found it for sale on craigslist. Check there and see if you find it.
