Big win — and the Cyclones remain in the lead!

A 15-hit barrage — which came after a poor performance by starter Pedro “No Relation” Martinez — gave the Cyclones a 9–6 win over the Hudson Valley Renegades and kept the team one-half game ahead of their rivals for the New York-Penn League’s lone wild-card slot.

Here’s how the victory — the team’s 10th in its last 11 games — went down:

Sept. 3 at Hudson Valley

Starter Martinez gave up two runs in each of the first two frames, leaving after just 1-1/3 innings of work.

But the Cyclone bullpen limited the Renegades to just two more runs over the rest of the contest, allowing the mighty Cyclone bats to snatch this victory from the jaws of ineptitude.

The resurrection began with two runs in the third, thanks to a Juan Lagares single and an error later in the inning. In the next inning, the Cyclones added three runs, the big blows coming from Ike Davis (his 14th double), newcomer Charles Doyle’s two RBI double, and a fielding error.

Two more runs came in in the fifth, on back-to-back doubles by Jordan Abruzzo and Davis.

And the Cyclones put up yet another deuce in the sixth with another double by Doyle and back to back singles by Eric Campbell and Sean Ratliff.

The Renegades picked up single runs in the seventh and eighth, but it was too little, too late.

The win kept the Cyclones one-half game ahead of the Jamestown Jammers for the last playoff berth with just three games — all of them at Keyspan Park — left to play.
