He stopped a thief cold

Stopped thief

A feisty victim thwarted a robbery attempt in front of his 83rd Street home on Sept. 15.

The 22-year-old told cops he was standing in front of his house, which is between First and Second avenues, at around 1:30 pm when a man walked up to him, grabbed his iPhone and began punching him.

The victim fought back, punching and yelling. The thief finally threw the stolen phone on the ground and sped off in a black car parked nearby — but not before the victim smashed the vehicle’s right side mirror as the car pulled away.

Senior moment

Someone mugged a woman as she walked down 73rd Street on Sept. 14.

The 63-year-old victim was at the corner of Fourth Avenue just before 11 pm when someone pushed her from behind. When she fell to the ground, the thug grabbed her wallet and fled, making off with $150 and a cellphone.

De-constructed

Someone nabbed more than $6,000 of construction materials off of Ridge Boulevard on Sept. 15.

A 52-year-old worker told cops he left several pipes on the ground near his truck while he arrived at the construction site, between 85th and 86th streets, at around 9 am. When he got back to his truck just three hours later, the pipes had vanished.

Lots of break ins

At least four neighborhood homes were burgled last week. Here’s a roundup:

• Someone broke into an 86th Street home on Sept. 9.

The victim, 26, left her house, between Third and Fourth avenues, at around 8:30 am. When she returned home just before midnight, she noticed a rear window open, and more than $2,000 worth of jewelry gone from inside.

• A Sixth Avenue apartment was broken into on Sept. 13. The 74-year-old tenant said he left the building, which is between 69th and 70th streets, at around 11 am. When he returned 12 hours later, someone had broken the air conditioning unit out of a side window, climbed in and helped themselves to nearly $4,000 in jewelry and electronics.

• On the same day, a bold thief attempted to break into an 81st Street home while the homeowner was asleep.

The 93-year-old victim told cops she awoke at around 10 pm to find the suspect in the bedroom of her Fourth Avenue house, looking through her drawers. When the would-be burglar noticed the victim watching, he turned and ran out of the home empty-handed.

• Finally, someone broke into a 74th Street home on Sept. 14. The 45-year-old victim left the house, between 11th and 12th avenues, at around 12:30 pm. When he returned just after 11 pm, someone had broken the lock to the front door and grabbed more than $23,000 in gold and diamond jewelry and electronics from inside.
