Having trouble getting that whippersnapper to turn off the video games or turn down the iPod? Head to the Brooklyn Museum on Saturday for a good ol’ fashioned form of entertainment: reading!
The museum will hold its second annual Children’s Book Fair featuring authors and illustrators, plus art-making activities for kids.
Head straight for Keith DuQuette’s table. The Prospect Heights writer and illustrator (best loved for “Cock-A-Doodle Moooo!” and “Little Monkey Lost”) will help kids create their own mythological animal combinations and name them, too.
He’ll also talk about how he got into the business for himself after illustrating other writers’ books.
“I had my own ideas,” DuQuette said. “I came at it from an illustrators point of view and then learned to write.”
The fair will also include readings by Phil Bildner (“Turkey Bowl”), Mike Herrod (“Comics to Go”) and Selina Alko (“Greetings from the 50 States”); an author/illustrator scavenger hunt (kids travel from author to author collecting stamps), and even a free lunch.
Naturally, the museum will also have items for sale in its shop.
