Police are investigating the death of an apparently homeless man, whose burnt corpse was discovered by firefighters after they put out a blaze in Owls Head Park early on Tuesday morning.
Smokeeaters responded to a 911 call at around 4 am only to discover the man’s charred body after putting out the fire.
The victim had surrounded himself with candles, perhaps to stay warm, according to a police source. Police at the scene dusted several liquor and beer bottles for fingerprints after removing the body, and the victim’s name was not released, pending notification of his family.
