A desperate shoplifter threatened a security guard at a 12th Street supermarket on Dec. 30, claiming that he had a syringe infected with HIV.
The criminal had a full cart of meat when the guard stopped him at noon. But instead of surrendering, the man reached into his pocket and said, “I have an AIDS needle. I’ll stab you.”
The thug fled the store, which is between Second and Third avenues.
A youthful greeting quickly turned into a midday mugging on Eighth Avenue on Dec. 30.
A teenage girl was approached by a fellow youngster at the corner of Berkeley Place at 2:30 pm. The second girl said, “Yo! You got the time?” But when the first girl pulled out her iPhone to check, the punk grabbed the cell and ran.
Who says demand for autos is down? Thieves swept the Slope last week, swiping a variety of vehicles:
• A black 1997 Accord was stolen from a spot on Seventh Avenue between 13th and 14th streets, sometime between 4 pm on Dec. 16 and 3 pm on Dec. 28.
• A gray 1988 Jeep Cherokee was taken from the corner of Fourth Street and Seventh Avenue on Jan. 1 between 12:30 and 4 pm.
• Thieves drove off in a white Mack truck from a commercial lot at the corner of Nevins and Douglass streets sometime between 1:30 am and noon on Jan. 2.
• A New Jersey man’s 2001 Audi was swiped from the corner of Sixth Street and Prospect Park West sometime between 2 and 9 pm on Jan. 4.
