Yet another mugging!

for The Brooklyn Paper

Brutal mug

A group of men and women beat and robbed a 43-year-old man on Fifth Avenue on March 17.

The 43-year-old victim told cops that he was at the corner of 85th Street at around 2:15 pm when the suspects walked up, grabbed him from behind and began punching and kicking him.

The victim fell to the ground, and the thugs grabbed $60 from his front pocket before fleeing toward Fourth Avenue.

Gym rats!

Thieves broke into at least two gym lockers in separate incidents last week, stealing cash and credit cards from patrons of neighborhood sports clubs.

First, someone racked up more than $2,800 worth of charges on a credit card that he had snatched from a Third Avenue health club on March 12.

The victim, 25, told police that he placed his wallet in one of the lockers inside the New York Sports Club, between 71st and 72nd streets, at around 1 pm.

When he opened the undamaged locker just one hour later, his wallet — and the debit and credit cards inside — were gone.

Then, someone nabbed more than $50 from a Fourth Avenue gym on March 16.

The 31-year-old victim told cops he locked up his wallet and clothes inside of Dolphin Fitness, between 87th and 88th streets, at around 10:30 pm. When he returned after his workout, the cash as well as his debit and credit cards were gone.

Pat K from Bay Ridge says:
What's with the health clubs and Gym;s the last couple of years. Can't they put a small or hidden camera that sees the lockers especially if the problem happens often, or the PROBLEM the health club itself- shame. You don't wnt to blame staff, but no one from the outside who's not a member or utulizing the gym should be in there- right? so what's going on- the gym can't protect it's members ?????

This seems to be happening a lot in the Health Clubs and Gyms in the City, and Bay Ridge. You would think they would have some kind of camerea - open - or hidden that would be focused on the lockers. from what i have read this has happned several times this year so far at at least one of the gyms. Let's take for granted it's NOT the staff doing this, how are these people getting in and stealing? Now i ask is your gym safe?

Think about it!
