Watch Gersh eat his last Cuban!

The Brooklyn Paper

As you know, the staff of The Brooklyn Paper will be moving to offices in the Metrotech complex next week. As such, Editor Gersh Kuntzman begins a new feature, a daily tribute to the things he loves about DUMBO. Today’s entry: the Cuban at Pedro’s.

Reader Feedback

Eric McClure from Park Slope says:
Gersh, we readers are not so much interested in what you'll be eating at Metrotech, but rather what Rupert Murdoch will have you feeding us.

Choclatina from Prospect Heights says:
Dear Gersh, I appreciate the gusto with which you enjoyed your last Cuban. But I have to say it hurt my ears to hear you mispronounce "Cubano" as that is also my favorite sandwich. The word "Cubano" is simply pronounced: koo-bah-no. The "enye" sound you added should only be used when the word includes the "enye" character of the Spanish alphabet, which does not appear on English keyboards. "Enye" looks like the letter n with the tilde (~) symbol -- sounds like "teal-day" in Spanish -- over it. "Cubanyo," as you enthusiastically pronounced it, sounds a lot like the word ban~o, which means bath, or more commonly, bathroom. You wouldn't want viewers to think you were eating a bathroom!

I'll have to check out Pedro's. I haven't had a decent Cubano since I left El Barrio. From the video, yours looks like Pedro's makes it the right way.

Jason from DUMBO says:
Great piece Gersh,
Sorry to see you leave the hood. If it doesn't work out @ MetroTech, I think you've got a real future in broadcast TV.

- Cheers.
