On Wednesday morning, Hasidic Jews in Williamsburg marked what they believe is the third time in history that the Passover holiday began at the moment when the sun was in the exact same celestial position that it occupied at Creation. More than 1,000 observant Jews gathered at the corner of Kent Avenue and Hooper Street to celebrate the event.

Jews across Brooklyn celebrated the beginning of Passover on Wednesday night, but earlier in the morning, thousands of Hasidic Jews gathered at Kent Avenue and Hooper Street in Williamsburg to mark what they believe to be an historic occasion: the third time in history that the Passover holiday began at the same moment in a 28-year cycle that the sun was in the exact celestial position it occupied at the moment of Creation.

Whether you subscribe to that Biblical belief or not, one thing is true: the faithful had a party on Wednesday morning, singing, praying and dancing in the street after receiving a special “sun blessing” from Rabbi Sholom Kraus.
