The Bard of Bushwick, Frank Hoier, has been so inspired by our Coney Island coverage that he wrote a ballad to the so-called “People’s Playground” — and sang it as part of his bi-weekly “Rhythm and News” segment. Take it away, Frank.

Redevelop or leave it there?

Shot the freak, and had a beer?

Rode the cyclone, had a hot dog

Seen the mermaid parade?

What to do with Coney Island

My friend I cannot really say

What to do with Coney Island?

Build new apartments and new stores?

Do you still go to Coney Island?

Those summer nights down by the shore

Will it still be Coney Island

If the mayor has his way?

The “People’s Playground” by the sea

Russian food at Brighton Beach

Take a stroll across the Boardwalk

Have some ice cream along the way

Everything one day does change
