Despite a valiant come-from-behind effort, the Cyclones lost in the 10th inning — and shaved a game off their lead over the hated Staten Island Yankees.

After the Lake Monsters opened the scoring in the first, the Cyclones tied it up in the second on a John Servidio bases-loaded walk.

All hell broke loose in the visitor’s third, when starter Wes Wrenn gave up two homers and a triple. He left with a horrific line score: 2-1/3 innings, five earned runs and seven hits — three for homers.

But the Cyclones chipped away, scoring once in the fourth — on Alex Gregory’s solo shot — and twice in the fifth on Richard Lucas’s double.

The Cyclones tied the score with runs in the seventh (again on a Lucas double) and eighth (on a Dock Doyle double), but usually reliable reliever Brandon Sage gave up an RBI single in the 10th.

Lucas was 2-for-5 on the night and is hitting .348 in his six games as a Cyclone.

The loss trimmed the Cyclone lead over the hated Yankees to three-and-a-half games with 11 left to play.
