‘Warsaw’ no ghetto for record fans

Just take those old records off the shelf and make room for new vinyl in your collection, because dozens of vendors are again storming Warsaw on Feb. 15 in what is fast-becoming a major musical event in the borough.

Dig into the crates of LPs, 45s and some of those newfangled formats from 30 to 40 dealers during an all-day event that appeals not only to the ears, but also to the stomach with beer, kielbasa and pierogies (they don’t call it Warsaw for nothing).

“New York doesn’t really have the same type of record shows that other cities have,” said Steve Gritzan, owner of a Jersey City record store.

It’s not due to lack of demand, though.

“It’s insane how many people buy records in Brooklyn,” he said. “It’s disproportionate to any other place I’ve seen.”

Record Riot at Warsaw (261 Driggs Ave. at Eckford Street in Greenpoint), Feb. 15, noon–8 pm. Admission is $3. Call (609) 468-0885 for info.
