We did it! Paper helps singer raise money for new album

for The Brooklyn Paper

Singer-songwriter Greta Gertler will finish her new album — and she has Brooklyn (and its Paper) to thank for it.

As we reported back in October, the indie songsmith was trying to raise $15,000 to produce her upcoming record, “The Universal Thump.” The Sunset Park resident invited people to donate money — with incentives ranging from an autographed copy of the new album to a concert performance at the donor’s residence.

Our coverage ensured that Gertler raised the $15,000 by the Dec. 9 deadline. If she didn’t meet that fundraising total, she would have had to refund the money.

“Until about the last day, I was stressed out because I thought I set the goal too high for myself,” she said. “But my backers spread the word.”

The highest-level contribution was $2,000 — a donation so high that Gertler will compose a personal song for the donor.

Based on her experience, she said other artists should seek the public’s support for making a record.

“I would do it again,” she said, “but now I need a break to make music.”

DAVID CHIU, the 'Our coverage ensured that Gertler raised the $15,000 by the Dec. 9 deadline.' is a tad much.
Greta is a very clever trevor for funding her project in this manner. She worked her butt off. She is a terrific artist, and her fans & friends supported it reasonable with ease, because of the optimized format that www.kickstarter.com availed us to help her get it done. Go Greta!
