Today’s news:

The First Lady with the best pizza!

The Brooklyn Paper

First Lady Michelle Obama and the First Kids downed three pies at DUMBO’s legendary Grimaldi’s Pizzeria on March 24 — and said it was better than Chicago-style pizza!

Even the family’s jaded waiter was impressed.

“It was great! It is an honor,” said Rafal Harajda, who served the fitness-obsessed Obama and daughters Malia and Sasha one pie with pepperoni and sausage, one classic Margherita, and one with mushrooms, peppers and onions.

The family showed up at around 1 pm with a full complement of security that kept Old Fulton Street in a lockdown for two hours. Restaurant customers kept their distance — more of out respect than fear, Harajda said.

The Secret Service did not, however, keep its distance. Those who wanted to enter the restaurant were given “the wand” and padded down, while other guards escorted MObama and the kids.

The waiter also reported (naturally) that the First Family was impressed by the quality of the Grimaldi’s pies, which do remain among the best in the city.

“They told me they really liked it,” Harajda said. “They were very very nice people, very down to earth.”

Later, the Obamas toured the newly opened portion of Brooklyn Bridge Park.

The best pizza in new york is actually Cannasta's, in Rose Gardens in Queens. But for brooklyn g's is not bad at all.

Sam from Brooklyn says:
Sorry to say but Grimaldi's does not have the best pies in the city, not for a while at least. I have gone their regularly over the last 5 years and the quality has slowly diminished. They are more about slinging pies as fast as possible and getting you out the door than making a great pizza that leaves an impression.

If you want a real slice of NY from a big name restaurant go to L&B Spumoni in Brooklyn or Goodfellas on Staten Island.

I guess while her husband and his cronies in Congress are busy tearing up the Constitution and taking away our rights, that must mean it is a good time to have pizza at the taxpayer's expense.

Maybe the government can take over all of the pizza shops as well!!! Won't that be yummy!!!!??

Bayridgite from Bay Ridge says:
Joey Bots: where were you when Bush was spying on everyone? That wasn't tearing up the Constitution?

Now if Michelle and the girls would just come to Little Cupcake....

Uggh, the wing nuts have escaped from the zoo! Everything to them has to be a fox 'news' talking point! Don't worry, their disease, although contagious, can be remedied by a healthy dose of logic and rationality.

Chad from Park Slope says:
@Fourth Estate - but no one can deny that Michelle O'bama bought the pizzas with TAX PAYER MONEY!
She should have gone to Brighton Beach instead for a big, RED bowl of RUSSIAN borscht. I think that would be more in touch with her politcal views.
Please leave the pizzas to us freedom lovers.

Fourth Estate from DUMBO says:
@Chad, The tea you have drunk must be laced with LSD.

So here, you are accusing not only Michelle Obama of being a communist, which she is not, you are also accusing an entire community in Brighton Beach as such as well. Stop drinking Glenn Becks BS tea, it is frying your brain. The immigrants in Brighton Beach fled the soviet system.

My word, oooooh, she bought it with tax payer money! THE HEAVENS ARE FALLING! SHE USED TAX PAYER MONEY!! Big deal. Barbara Bush didn't hold a job other than first lady, while in the white house. What about her using tax payer money for herself and her staff! Oh no! YOU CAN'T DO THAT!

Chad, get a real education. This propaganda you spew is in line with the extreme right wing hate points of 1930's Germany. These tea party talking points are nauseating, perhaps you can join your compatriots in the south, you know, the part of america that constantly re-enacts a war they lost.

@Fourth Estate

I don't drink LSD, I think it's actually hippie/communists like you who enjoy that stuff.

She clearly is a communist, and that's why I think she'd be more comfortable with the russians.
The first point is that Barbara bush never ate pizza, so there is no way she was using our money on a Grimaldi's.
Secondly, Michelle Obama is know as pinko and probably wasn't even born in our country (has anyone seen HER birth certificate?). Having a marxist first lady is bad enough, but knowing that she is possibly a foreigner who eats pizza at our expense just goes to show what's wrong with this country. You expect hard working AMERICAN CITIZENS like me to give my money over to the IRS to be used to buy possibly FOREIGN PEOPLE lunch. Just great!

Fourth Estate from DUMBO says:
@ Chad,

You are a wack job, get help, but not with my taxes. I am born and raised american, hard worker. I no longer want my taxes to help pay for the drugs you need to be able to walk into society. You are a nut job, get some help now. You have no idea what you are talking about, you trading your brain for a fox news anchor.

I am sure you were happy when bush was spending our taxes to find phantom WMD's. And guess what CHAD? The iraqis not only have cheaper gas, they also have universal health care, paid for by people like you and me. So for nuts like you, it is ok for Americans to spend our hard earned taxes to pay for healthcare for Iraq's, but god forbid the first lady gets pizza. Please leave my country, you un-american fascist, true Americans are sick of your ilk. We defeated your type in WW2, don't you get it?
March 26, 2010, 8:44 am
Chad from Park Slope says:
@Fourth Estate

I see you have no actual retort to my assertions and have resorted to name calling and making assumptions. And what does any of this have to do with Iraq.

I certainly hope that you have private health insurance to pay for the mental treatments you so clearly deserve. Just hope that you don't end up in front of a socialist death council.

If Iraq sounds so dreamy, why aren't you moving there? Socialized medicine, cheap gasoline, sunshine, and lots of muslims. It sounds like your version of paradise. You and the other "true americans" - because clearly I am an untrue american? And you have suddenly gotten the right to decide who is and isn't a true american?

I hope that you someday learn to control your temper you snippy little chiuaua.

@Chad, I don't think you understand what 4th estate is saying.

You are the one ranting about foreigners spending our tax dollars by stating implying the first lady is such and has broken some made up sin of spending tax money to buy pizza.

So, you attack he first lady and insult her, and then try to be clever by claiming he resorted to name calling.

You attack the Brighton Beach residents, like myself by implying that because they are russian, they are commuist.

So in other words, you are an old style bigot who learned how to use a computer.

Ummm...did anyone know that Michelle Obama's great-great-great-grandfather was WHITE?!!!

And her great-great-great-grandmother was Melvinia Shields, a slave from SC?

So, @crazyguyspoutinghate is RIGHT! She IS from a foreign country...South Carolina! Oh, I'm sorry, I just think of it as foreign because the way the Governor and representatives act is often "un-American". Sorry! My bad!

the enslaved and illiterate young girl, and the unknown white man who impregnated her are the of Michelle Obama, the first lady

@ everyone

You've convinced me, let's give free pizza-care to everyone. If you think that's the best way to spend our tax dollars, so be it.

I for one don't want to live in a country where communists decide how much pizza we get, when we get the pizza, and where Michelle Obama sits on some type of Pizza KGB.

Let's just say that we all think it's great that Frau Obama-vich eats our food and likes it. Just like she is eating our national soul - chewing it up and then spitting it out whole.

It took your carefully phrased arguments (wildly self satisfied rants?) to convince, and it has worked so well. Surely anyone would be convinced by your angry, and in your eyes self-evident assertions. And if they weren't you would discount them as unimportant or unreally american.
No surprise.

Fourth Estate from DUMBO says:
@Chad,

It's no surprise that someone who thinks and views the world through angry rants is now upset that he was called out on it. Are you sure your not Glenn Beck?

Perhaps you pray for the day Sarah Palin becomes President so she can spread Alaskan non-socialism, like taking money from oil companies by governmental force and giving it to her constituents, thats good old capitalism...wait, crap, that's redistributing wealth....wait...wait....thats socialism!!!

Jaimie from Brooklyn Heights says:
Wow, lots of tension in this comment section. I think that in the end we can all agree that buying the pizza was a waste of tax payer dollars. Even fourth estate agrees to that.

Whether or not Michelle Obama really is a communist or just a socialist america hater, we can all just say that we don't like her and wish she would go back to whatever country she originally came from.

Thank you BP for pointin out another goof by Oh-no-bama family.
March 29, 2010, 6:20 pm
Fourth Estate from DUMBO says:
@ Jaimie,

Why do people like yourself think they speak for the mojority? Just because the 4 or 5 people you call friends agrees with you, doesn't mean everyone else does.

It seems you also have a lack of knowledge about things in general.

The first lady of the United States gets a budget, they all do. Laura Bush got one, Hillary Clinton, etc. It has never been a problem unitil now. Please explain why its a problem now, if you can without name calling.

And, for your education, Michelle Obama has more American ancestry then even her husband. But of course, you won't acknowledge that she is already in her country. Perhaps it is you that is the foreigner?

Michelle Obama is not only born an American, she can trace her roots to pre-civil war South Carolina (is that a foreign country?)

Her paternal great-great grandfather, Jim Robinson was a slave in the south.

And her maternal great-great-great grandmother, Melvinia Shields was also a slave who became impregnated by a white man and gave birth to her maternal great-great grandfather Dolphus T. Shields, who was biracial.

So I suggest that she is more of an American than most of us, perhaps even you as you seem not to have a grasp on history. Get an education, it may help.

Joey Bots from NoBama Land says:
Who cares what her ethnic background is?? being a proud American is in the heart!

Breaking news...

Ms. Obama was overheard commenting after eating the fine pizza, wow, this is possibly the Second time I have ever been proud of my country!!!!
March 30, 2010, 2:24 pm
Fourth Estate from DUMBO says:
@ Joey

Great, spread Hannity's distortions.

Her correct quote was

"For the first time in my adult lifetime, I'm really proud of my country"

not

"For the first time in my adult lifetime, I'm proud of my country."

There is a big difference.

But only to people who actually think with their brains and not react to the emotional stimulation from the people at fox 'news', but to clarify, her statement indicates she was always proud.
