A 28-year-old Clinton Hill resident has been arrested in connection with Tuesday’s fatal shooting at the corner of Classon and Lafayette avenues.
Tareen Brown was identified as the suspect in the Oct. 12 shooting of 33-year-old Terrell Canty within a few hours of the 8:30 am bloodbath, thanks mostly to some video surveillance footage taken of the confrontation, cops said.
But when investigators went to grab Brown up, he ran off, sparking a heated, though brief, pursuit.
Brown was quickly apprehended and was charged with murder. Yet police sources said it remained unclear what exactly led to the shooting.
“We’re not 100 percent sure what happened, but from what we heard, they were having some kind of disagreement,” the source said.
By this afternoon, Brown’s arraignment in criminal court was pending. An attorney had yet to be assigned to the case.
Details about the crime remain sketchy even two days after. Canty was nearing the corner of Classon and Lafayette avenues when he was shot in the chest and leg. He died of his injuries at Brooklyn Hospital.
News of the slaying — the fifth to take place in Fort Greene and Clinton Hill’s 88th Precinct this year — startled and outraged residents, particularly those on their way to work on Tuesday morning when homicide investigators shut down Lafayette Avenue for an hour during the morning commute.
