The Brooklyn Paper

Tabernacle turmoil

Is a thief haunting the Brooklyn Tabernacle?

A bandit swiped three watches from a desk in the Smith Street house of worship on Jan. 19 — all Bulovas valued at $1,200.

The crime at the cathedral, which is between Livingston and Fulton streets, follows last week’s news that a creep snatched a lady’s purse while she attended a recent Sunday service.

Hack attack

An intergender band of thugs swarmed a taxi on Jan. 24, smashing the driver’s window and stealing $200.

The startled driver told cops that he had just dropped off passengers on St. Marks Place between Third and Fourth avenues at around 2:30 am when the two men and two women approached the car.

“You got money in here?” one asked before the troublemakers took matters into their own hands.

Joya thief

A dirtbag snatched a woman’s purse while she was eating at Joya Restaurant on Court Street on Jan. 16.

The inattentive eater told cops that she had draped her purse over a chair while she ate at the eatery, which is between Wyckoff and Warren streets at around 7:30 pm.

When she returned her attention to the bag, it (and the $20 inside it) was gone.

Popeye’s eyed

Two brigands stormed the Popeye’s Chicken on Livingston Street, forcing one employee into the walk-in refrigerator and demanding that the other open the safe at gunpoint on Jan. 23.

The victims told cops that the pair entered the fast-food joint between Bond Street and Hanover Place at around 9:15 am.

As they guided one of the employees at gunpoint to the safe, the two bozos apparently became nervous and bashed the worker in the face with a gun before fleeing the scene — without even a three-piece box.

ABC you later

A thief swiped a woman’s wallet while she was shopping at the ABC Super Store on the Fulton Mall on Jan 20.

The victim, who lost an assortment of credit cards and IDs, told cops that the jerk must have struck around 10 am at the discount store between Jay and Pearl streets.

Tires taken

Thieves seized four tires from a car that had was parked on Poplar and Hicks streets on Jan. 20.

The owner of the auto returned to his car the next morning at around 7:30 am to find his ride on cinder blocks — minus four wheels that are valued at $2,000.
