True Brit! U.K. comic Kitson to fill DUMBO with mirth

The Brooklyn Paper

Stop what you’re doing right now and get tickets to Daniel Kitson’s one-man show at St. Ann’s Warehouse.

We mean it!

The British comedian sells out shows faster than a Grizzly Bear concert on the Williamsburg waterfront, with good reason.

For the past handful of years, Kitson’s gained steady acclaim for his so-called “story shows” — essentially, theatrical storytelling that requires little in the way of props or setting, just the comedian’s enthralling words. His last one in New York was five years ago with “A Made-Up Story,” though he’s occasionally come back since for packed stand-up performances at the Bell House and Union Hall.

His latest story show, “The Interminable Suicide of Gregory Church,” in previews starting Jan. 6, tells the true story of a man who took over 20 years to commit suicide — life just got in the way. Specifically, 57 letters he intended to write to friends and family. Kitson’s monologue is based on over 30,000 letters found in Church’s attic, resulting in a poignant, absorbing show by one of the UK’s best talents.

Seriously, why are you still reading this? The ticket number is below.

“The Interminable Suicide of Gregory Church” at St. Ann’s Warehouse [38 Water St. between Dock and Main streets in DUMBO, (718) 834-8794], Jan. 6-30, Tuesday-Saturday at 8 pm and Sundays at 4 pm. Tickets $35-$60. For info, visit www.stannswarehouse.org.
