Spring may finally have sprung, but at Bierkraft, the gourmet grocery and beer emporium on Fifth Avenue and Union Street in Park Slope, it’s beginning to look more like Oktoberfest.
That’s because the craft beer behemoth is putting the finishing touches on a new backyard “biergarten,” where up to 40 revelers can kick back with growlers of Ballast Point Tongue Buckler and Chelsea Black Hole XXX Stout.
“As we moved away from selling provisions and specialty goods, our beers and sandwiches really took off,” explained cellar manager Matt Barkley. “The inside tables, which seat about 30, have been really popular, so the backyard is a natural extension of our space.”
The outdoor festivities kick off on April 16 with an all day Oyster Roast and Cask Fest, with several purveyors, including Clinton Hill’s Kelso brewery, providing unfiltered and unpasteurized specialty suds.
That’s hardly the only event on tap for the new, warm-weather hang.
“We’re partnering with Captain Lawrence Brewing Company for a pig roast in June,” revealed Barkley.
And although a rowdy good time seems promised for all, Barkley had words of assurance for noise-averse neighbors. “There won’t be any live music or anything, because we don’t have that kind of license. And we’re not extending our hours either. The latest we’ll stay open is 11 at night.”
Might as well rest up for a fresh round of drinking in the morning.
