Heights Players get serious for cancer couple

for The Brooklyn Paper

Members of a Brooklyn Heights community theater are banding together to help a former thespian and her husband — both diagnosed days apart with fatal cancer.

The Heights Players, will hold a performance of the company’s current — and very well-reviewed — show, plus raise money through a silent auction for Elisa Bond, who performed in multiple shows for the company, and her husband Nathan — both of whom got the cancer prognosis in February.

“There are so many people who love this family,” said Ellen Pittari, co-organizer of the May 26 event. “The fundraiser is a way for us to help them without being intrusive.”

The fundraiser will be as lively and fierce as Elisa, who first performed with the company when she was 7-years-old.

“She is always in good spirits, a real fighter,” said Pittari.

The silent auction will include season tickets to the theater, Calvin Klein bedding and gift certificates from local merchants.

“People are donating great items,” said Pittari, referring to locals’ general affection for the Bonds and their sympathy over the tragic situation.

Elisa was diagnosed with the latest stage of breast cancer seven days after Nathan was diagnosed with colo-rectal cancer. The couple lives in Bay Ridge with its 20-month-old daughter, Sadie.

Nathan and Elisa Bond Fundraiser at the Heights Players [26 Willow Pl. between Joralemon and State streets in Brooklyn Heights, (718) 237-2752], May 26 at 6:30 pm. Tickets $25. For info, visit www.heightsplayers.org. To make a donation, visit www.friendsofnathanandelisa.blogspot.com.
