June 30 at Hudson Valley
The Cyclones are back, baby!
The minor league scrappers from Coney Island lived up to their namesake Thursday as the team touched down in Hudson Valley and destroyed the Renegades 16-5 — clearly making up for Wednesday’s embarrasing shut out at home.
The game started out on a down note with the Renegades scoring four runs in the first, but Cyclones short stop Ishmael Tijerina kicked off the threat in the fourth. Second baseman Brandon Brown’s follow-up hit left Tijerina on third, putting the team in a perfect position to start their rally.
The cyclones had five runs before ending the inning — but they didn’t stop there, managing 11 more runs beginning in the sixth.
The team’s pitching managed to keep the Renegades at bay for the rest of the game, letting just one Renegade run slip by after the first.
The Cyclones return home vs. the Staten Island Yankees at MCU Park [1904 Surf Ave. at W. 17th Street in Coney Island, (718) 449-8497] on July 3, 6 pm. For info, visit www.brooklyncyclones.com.
