Bank thief says, ‘I’ll kill them all!’

The Brooklyn Paper

88th Precinct

Fort Greene–Clinton Hill

Written threats

A note-passing bandit threatened to kill everyone inside a Myrtle Avenue Chase Bank during a harrowing Aug. 15 robbery.

The bank at Vanderbilt Avenue was open at 9:30 am when the thief walked in and slipped the teller a note reading, “Give me all 100s and 50s before I get to killing people.”

The teller followed the message to the letter, giving the thief $2,000.

CVS rob

A gunman held up the brand new Myrtle Avenue CVS on Aug. 17, taking $100.

The thief entered the store — which had just opened between the Flatbush Avenue Extension and Navy Street a week earlier — at 9:40 am, pulling a gun on a worker found by the cash register.

“Put the money in the bag,” the thief instructed. “Don’t lose your life over this.”

Once again, thieves were snatching up iPhones like hot cakes last week. Here’s what happened:

• Two thugs jumped a 32-year-old man near DeKalb Avenue and S. Oxford Street on Aug. 16, robbing him of his iPhone and wallet. The victim was talking on his phone at 12:40 am when the suspects punched him in the head, knocked him to the ground and ran off with his property.

• Three fiends plucked the cherished iPhone from a 32-year-old woman on Clinton Avenue on Aug. 16. The woman was between Willoughby and DeKalb avenues at 2:04 pm when the suspects swiped the phone in a lightning-fast attack.

• Three teens swiped an iPhone from a 22-year-old woman as she waited for the G at Fulton Street on Aug. 17. The victim was on a bench at 8:24 pm when one of the thieves struck up a conversation. A few moments later, an accomplice walked by — snatching the smartphone.

• A thief grabbed a 35-year-old woman’s iPhone at the Clinton-Washington Avenue station on Aug. 16 — but first faked out his victim by attempting to take her purse.

The woman was entering the station at 8 pm when the suspect jumped her at the turnstile, grabbing her pocketbook.

The thug punched his victim in the face repeatedly as he yanked on the bag, but then suddenly let go so he could snatch up the iPhone in the woman’s hand.

• A goon followed a 30-year-old woman into the lobby of a Clinton Avenue apartment building on Aug. 19 before taking an iPhone and wallet at gunpoint. The woman had just entered the building between Gates Avenue and Fulton Street at 10:10 pm when the suspect grabbed her and flashed his weapon.

Coat grab

A gun-toting thief jumped a 29-year-old woman at Clinton and Willoughby avenues on Aug. 17 — taking a raincoat and the the cash, credit cards and iPhone in its pockets.

The victim was nearing the corner at 12:25 am when the suspect surprised her, waved a gun in front of her face before running off with her outerwear.

Surgical strike

A thief cut the pants of a sleeping 2 train commuter on Aug. 13, stealing the man’s wallet and cellphone.

The victim was taking the train from Manhattan to Brooklyn at 2:30 am when he fell asleep. He woke up when the train rolled into the Atlantic Avenue station — only to learn that someone had cut open his pants pocket and removed his property.

Ashlanded

A thief broke into a car parked on Ashland Place on Aug. 18, taking $500 and a laptop computer.

The 2005 Pontiac was left between DeKalb and Myrtle Avenues at 11 am. When the owner returned three hours later, he discovered that someone had broken the passenger side window and looted the cabin.

Socket to her

A thief armed with an adjustable wrench mugged a 25-year-old woman entering the Classon Avenue train station on Aug. 18 — making off with her wallet and cellphone.

The victim had just entered the station at 9:58 pm when the suspect blocked her path and threatened to brain her with his tool.

Four on two

A crooked quartet attacked two young men on Myrtle Avenue on Aug. 20, leaving them with a smattering of injuries.

The victims were between Stuben Street and Grand Avenue at 11:40 pm when the suspects pummeled them with punches.

Disenfranchised from the Protection of Law says:
Clinton Hill and Ft Greene are poor. The 88th Precinct knows this and continues the status quo of Not-Giving-a-——. The streets are filled with sidewalk-dwellers and "porch monkeys" whose unemployment is perpetuated by their ability to engage in unlawful, violent and intimidating behavior to fulfill their financial needs. They do so more and more frequently, for minimal individual gains, because they know that they can get away with it. When a person will risk 25-years in prison for $100, the cost-benefit analysis can only be stilted in their knowledge that the Police have zero presence in the neighborhood.

Increasing the Police force in the 88th Precinct would not only bolster the safety of every individual in Ft Greene/Clinton Hill, but it would also add jobs to the community. This job creation would also be extended to new businesses that would be attracted to an area that is growing safer, not devolving into the wild west. Funding needs to be given to the 88th to make changes and increase civil liberties and protections for all residents. And you can't tell me we can't afford it - as Bloomberg just dumped 700 million into the Metro-North just so fat cats from Connecticut can get to their jobs 90seconds faster every morning.

The motto of the neighborhoods are as follows:

Residents:
If you use an iPod/iPhone on the streets and you get mugged its your own fault. If you park your car on the street and it gets broken into its your fault. If you leave your apartment and return to find it broken into its your fault. If you tie your dog up outside a store and it gets stolen its your fault.

Police:
If you don't like it then leave.

Both of these mottos need to change - or the area will continue to see an economic and social downturn.

"Disenfranchised from the Protection of Law" deserves to be mugged....and if you were one of the victims on the lists..you deserved it....spoken from someone who has lived in the neighborhood, without incident for 14 years.

Jacks from Fort Greene says:
Last night, a woman was walking into her apartment building while another woman started attacking her for her purse. This was on Greene and Adelphi at around 10 pm. As a young woman, this scares me that people will rob and attack you while there are people around on very well lit streets. I haven't had any encounters yet, but I'm sure I will as the neighborhood starts getting worse. So not only do I have to watch out for male creepers, now I have to watch out for crazy females??

Jeb from Bedford Stuyvesant says:
These crimes will continue because the police need to be employed. If they keep arresting and having people locked up,then they will not have jobs. The only time they will do something is if anyone is killed or a member of the family of a policeman or someone working for the DA has been attacked or harmed.
If you paid good money for your ——e,then fight for it! Why is it that you never hear or see any of these larceneous clowns ever try to rob a black or hispanic person! Learn to fight for your things and you wouldn't have a problem. Yes this is to "white" folks. Please don't come back with any "reverse racism" notions crap i.e they're going to holler "racist" etc if "we ever stand up to them". Stop being astonished and or scared and start swinging and or retaliating when they come at you.

Pregnant from Fort Greene says:
I'm pregnant. Should I engage my mugger in a fight douche bag? I pay a ridiculous amt of taxes to protect me and my family and I'm tired of feeling like I can't walk around my streets after 6pm. I've lived here for 5 years without incident, but I carry pepper spray in my hand everyday. Might as well live in Detroit and forgo the $2200 rent payment. But no worries, I'll be leaving soon enough and heading back to the midwest where people aren't animals.
