All it takes is $14 and a dream.
Merchants on Park Slope’s Fifth Avenue are so desperate to get you into their stores that they’ll give you a $1,000 raffle ticket for every $14 you spend.
The only catch is that the money must be spent … on Fifth Avenue.
“We wanted people to say, wow, look at that,” said Irene LoRe of the Fifth Avenue Business Improvement District, which is funding the promotion on the strip between Dean and 18th streets.
She said that the cold weather and the “terrible” economy had created a perfect storm that has battered her merchants — and prompted drastic action and fliers all over the place reading, “Spending spree raffle! Sweet Valentine’s deal for you!”
Nearly 100 shops, bars and restaurants — including Alchemy, Ginger’s Bar and Beacon’s Closet — are participating in the promo. First prize is $1,000; second is $500; third is $300.
