It’s on to the final round in the search for the Next Great Wine Bottle Artist.
Six finalists have emerged from nearly 100 entries in a contest to pick a new label for Brooklyn Oenology’s crisp, citrus-y 2010 Sauvignon Blanc.
And here’s where you come in.
Starting on Feb. 18, customers at the Williamsburg winery will vote for their favorite label, launching one lucky artist to fame (though, alas, no fortune).
“All of the artists are very different,” said Brooklyn Oenology vintner Alie Shaper. “But we were able to find six labels that fit with our summertime wine.”
The six finalists are:
• Margeaux Walter, who crafted a digital print of a crowded park entitled “Sunday Afternoon.”
• Deanna Lee, whose “Red Orb” is an acrylic painting of multiple colored waves.
• Brian Fekete, who tossed in an abstract ink drawing entitled, “Blue Bloom.”
• See One, whose work, “Another Whirlwind Romance,” consisted of intertwining vibrant colors.
• Matt Relkin, whose “The Horses” is an acrylic painting of two elevated equines.
• Norman Mooney, who created “Wall Flower No. 1,” a yellow cast aluminum piece reminiscent of a daisy.
The winner will be announced at the end of March — and the chosen artist will not only have his or her label distributed all over the country, but will also get a solo show at the winery, a popular place to drink great wine and nosh picnic-style victuals.
“We’re very excited about all these artists,” said Shaper. “Whichever label the public picks, we’ll be thrilled with.”
Voting begins at the Brooklyn Oenology Tasting Room [209 Wythe Ave. between N. Third and N. Fourth streets in Williamsburg, (718) 599-1259], Feb. 18, 8–11 pm.
