The Dyker Heights man who was hit by an R train on Wednesday jumped in front of it in a bid to end his life, investigators announced today.

Witnesses in the 86th Street station saw the man leap in front of a Manhattan-bound train at approximately 1 pm, said a police spokesman. Emergency responders arrived shortly after and rushed the man to Lutheran Medical Center in critical condition at 1:40 pm.

He suffered “traumatic wounds” all over his body and was pronounced dead Wednesday evening, according to police.

Officials will release his name once they have notified his family, cops said.

The incident snarled subway service at Bay Ridge stations, and stranded straphangers were forced to take walk or take the B37 or B63 out of Bay Ridge.
