HEADLINE: 61st Precinct CC goes award crazy!
They’re the wind beneath the 61st Precinct’s wings.
The Bainbridge Center at 3093 Ocean Avenue was warmed with heartfelt thanks recently as members of the 61st Precinct Community Council honored a handful of community helpers who made this year’s National Night Out Against Crime a day to remember.
During the course of their regularly scheduled meeting, council President Yves Etienne handed out plaques of appreciation to Anthony Testiverde, an aide to State Senator Marty Golden, and longtime resident Fran Schwartz.
Both were instrumental in helping organize this year’s National Night Out Against Crime event — an annual celebration in which residents take back the streets from muggers, burglars and drug dealers.
Each year on the first Tuesday of August, the 61st Precinct hosts a special carnival day outside the command on Coney Island Avenue near Avenue W.
Also honored was Police Officer Sam Shaya, a member of the 61st Precinct’s community affairs team. At an earlier meeting, the precinct’s other two community affairs officers were honored for thier help in organizing this year’s National Night Out Against Crime celebration, Etienne said.
Cops from the 61st Precinct protect residents in Sheepshead Bay, Manhattan Beach, Homecrest and parts of Midwood.
