A big win — and a new team save record

Cyclones 4
Tigers 3

A win by the Cyclones kept the team’s first-place lead over the hated Yankees at three-and-a-half games, but this one was hard fought.

The Clones got on the board first on a Sam Honeck RBI single in the fourth.

Then, after the Tigers tied it up in the sixth, the Cyclones stormed back, adding two in the seventh on Jordany Valdespin’s first dinger.

The Tigers got one of those runs back in the bottom of the frame on a solo homer, but the Cyclones got a key insurance run in the ninth on an RBI single by hot-hitter Luis Rivera.

That run proved huge, because reliever Mike Powers gave up a run in the ninth — but struck out the final batter to notch his 16th save of the year, setting a new all-time save record for the Cyclones.
