Area patriots made a pact to support our troops overseas and their families at home by signing a covenant during a pomp-filled ceremony at Fort Hamilton Army Base.
The Army Community Covenant, a formal commitment of support by states and local communities to develop and foster effective local partnerships with the Armed Forces, was formalized with a signing at the Bluff, attended by area dignitaries and members of the Fort Hamilton Citizens Action Committee (FHCAC).
The group coordinated the occasion to “ensure that our military feels right at home in our neighborhood, because we are the home of free because of the brave,” said spokesperson Maureen Stramka.
A barbecue followed the signing, held in celebration of Fort Hamilton Community Day.
