A fashionable turn on Fulton – Event spotlights designers and helps fight homelessness

Witness the remarkable homecoming of fashion, community leadership and economic development at the Sixth Annual Fashion on Fulton and Friends benefiting Brooklyn Community Housing and Services (BCHS), one of New York City’s premier providers of supportive housing, at 6 p.m., June 9 at the Brooklyn Academy of Music (BAM), 30 Lafayette Avenue.

BCHS celebrates their commitment to ending homelessness in Brooklyn, while saluting the achievement and dedication of three distinguished Brooklynites: Nicholas Lembo, president and CEO of Monadnock Construction and the Capsys Corp., and builder of the award-winning Nehemiah II Houses in East New York, which has served as a national model for innovation and quality in affordable housing development; Marolyn Davenport, senior vice president of the Real Estate Board of New York and former founding executive director of the Park Slope Neighborhood Family Center; and Maria T. Jones, partner with the law firm Kramer Levin Naftalis and Frankel, devoted public service advocate, and former Deputy Commissioner of the New York City Department of Finance and Commissioner of the New York State Tax Tribunal.

For more than 25 years, BCHS has greatly contributed to Brooklyn’s economic and cultural vitality, and Fashion on Fulton & Friends captures the undeniable success of these efforts. This year’s theme, “A Day in the Life of a Brooklynite,” illustrates the rich and varied experiences of the borough’s residents, and the profound impact that coming together as a diverse community can have.

The event begins with a cocktail reception and silent auction, featuring donations from all over the borough. Guests will bid on Barge Music passes from the foot of the Brooklyn Bridge, Greene Grape and Madiba wine and dine certificates in the heart of Fort Greene; free ice skating at Aviator Sports & Recreation off the Belt Parkway, and horseback riding at the Jamaica Bay Riding Academy; the indulgent delights of Cake Man Raven confectionery on Fulton Street and Nu Yu Day Spa in Clinton Hill, and much more.

Those heading over the bridge can enjoy VIP house seats for a Broadway show of choice, and even tickets to a beloved Yankees game.

The fundraiser is topped with ‘style’, as hostess Celebrity Styleaholic, Najwa Moses presents Brooklyn’s finest fashion and accessory designers in a comprehensive runway show. Designers include: Tribal Truths Collection, Courtney Washington, Qristyl Frazier Designs, Joan Vaccianna, Johnny Vincent Swimwear, Waistbeads by Sewra, Salte Accessories, and Brooklyn’s own surprise Menswear scene.

Jeff Nemetsky, executive director of BCHS, says, “This year’s event promises to be our most exciting ever, as we celebrate the amazing strength of our residents, the wonderful work of our staff, the truly vibrant Brooklyn fashion industry, and three really remarkable honorees, each of whom has made a tremendous contribution to the Brooklyn community.”
