Kingsborough Community College’s men’s tennis team placed fourth in the National Junior College Athletic Association’s Division III Men’s Tennis Championships with a score of 21 team points.
With a 7-6 (7-5), 6-2 score, defeating Ross Armstrong and Farid Vatan of Montgomery College-Rockville, KCC’s duo of Haris Redzematovic and Maksim Vergazov were both named All-American after winning the No. 1 doubles flight.
Redamatovic advanced to the finals of the No. 1 singles flight, but finished runner-up to Mercer Community College’s Marc Nichols (6-2, 6-1). Vergazov won the No.2 singles flight, securing the title with a 6-3, 7-6 (7-5) victory over Dupage’s James Winkle.
Both were named All-American in singles.
Chris Kim, third singles, won two singles matches and will attend Cornell University. Fourth singles, Roy Gutierrez, won one match at the Nationals. Fifth singles, Andy Cao, and six singles, Yelnar Nurseitov, had outstanding seasons making the all tournament team at the New York State Regionals.
Seven Kingsborough Athletes were named All-American by the National Junior College Athletic Association.
Robert Mortel placed second in the 4 x 400 meter relay event at the NJCAA Division III Outdoor Track & Field. Faisal Muhammad placed second in the 35-pound weight throw event with a distance of 16.76 meters at the NJCAA Division I Indoor Track & Field Nationals. He placed first in the Hammer event with a distance of 49.06 meters, 160.91 feet at the Division III Outdoor Track & Field Nationals. He also placed sixth in the shot-put at the Outdoor.
Blake Prince placed second in the 4X400 meter relay event at the NJCAA Division III Outdoor Track & Field Nationals. He also placed fourth in the 4X100 meter relay event at the Nationals.
Haris Redzematovic was runner-up in the first singles flight and won first doubles at the NJCAA Division III Men’s Tennis Nationals. He also received the MVP Award and All Region honors at the NJCAA Region XV Division III Championships.
MaksimVergavoz was the winner of the second singles flight and won first doubles at the NJCAA Division III Men’s Tennis Nationals. He also received All Region honors at the NJCAA Region XV Division III Championships.
Jamie Wilson placed second in the 400 meter dash with a time of 48.21 and placed second in the 4 x 400 meter relay event at the NJCAA Division III Outdoor Track & Field Nationals. He also placed fourth in the 200 meter dash and placed fourth in the 4X100 meter relay event at the Nationals.
Beraiah Yisrael placed second in the 4 x 400 meter relay event at the NJCAA Division III Outdoor Track & Field Nationals. He also placed fourth in the 4 x 100 meter relay event and eighth in the 100 meter dash at the Nationals.
