Bishop Loughlin Memorial High School will celebrate its 75th anniversary in Fort Greene/Clinton Hill, October 9.
Bishop Nicholas DiMarzio will celebrate Mass at St. James Cathedral, 248 Jay Street, at 9:15 a.m. with students and alumni of the school, 357 Clermont Avenue. The students will parade back to Bishop Loughlin after the Mass where the Bishop will rededicate the building before the entire student body. A reception will follow.
A permanent historical display about the school will be unveiled on the first floor of the building as well as a display including the school’s 21 Penn Relays Championships, more than any other high school in the nation.
Bishop Loughlin is a Catholic, Diocesan, college preparatory high school founded by the Brothers of the Christian Schools.
The school opened in 1851 on Jay Street in downtown Brooklyn, then known as St. James Academy.
In 1933, St. James was closed and all the students and faculty moved into the new Bishop Loughlin Memorial High School on Clermont Avenue.
