Boody Symphony performs at Beep’s inauguration

Orchestra Conductor Thomas Brennan conducted the students as they performed“The William Tell Overture,” “The Barber of Seville Overture,” “Hungarian Air and Dance,” “Amazing Grace,” and “Beethoven’s Symphony No. 9” before more than 1,000 people in the giant hall of the armory, which was recently renovated as a YMCA. Assistant Conductor James Chiarello helped rehearse and train the students for the evening.

The musicians from the Gravesend school, 228 Avenue S between West Fourth & West Fifth streets, received several rounds of applause as they performed at the beginning of the evening’s program. Shown on large video screens as they played, many of them dressed formally for the event.

Many of the students in the Boody Symphony will perform in the 52nd anniversary of the “Salute to Music” program sponsored by The Friends of Music at Carnegie Hall, June 8.
