Brooklyn transportation advocates rejoiced as Mayor Michael Bloomberg signed the Bicycle Access Bill in City Hall.
“This is huge!The biggest thing that New York City could possibly do to open the doors of the workplace to cyclists,” said Brooklyn resident and Transportation Alternatives spokesperson Wiley Norvell.“It focuses on the right point of contact for building managers and it focuses on access instead of bike parking.”
The passage of the bill represents a victory for Brooklyn Councilmember David Yassky (D-Brooklyn Heights, Williamsburg) who sponsored the bill and has been lobbying colleagues in City Council and the Mayor for the past few months.
“In a city in which one in eight kids has asthma, this bill is a long overdue step towards reducing carbon emissions, improving public health, and building a sustainable transportation infrastructure,” said Yassky.
