Friday, March 18

“War Dreamer” at the Loading Dock Theatre: “War Dreamer” is a new, immersive play that follows Jesse, a veteran recently returned from a tour in Iraq, now navigating re-integrating into society as she deals with horrors both real and imagined. The “audio-centric” horror piece uses original sound design to explore Jesse’s past and present as she struggles with her own mind. 

March 18, with additional shows through April 3. Free. 7 pm. The Loading Dock Theatre, 170 Tillary St. between Flatbush Avenue Ext. and Gold Street.

Saturday, March 19

“I Blame Society” Screening and Q&A: Director Gillian Wallace Horvat visits Brooklyn for one night only for the New York Premiere of her newest film “I Blame Society,” named one of “New York” Magazine’s best films of 2021. Horvat, who also stars in the film as a “warped” version of herself, will answer audience questions about the film alongside actor Keith Poulson after two back-to-back screenings.

$10. 7 pm and 10:30 pm. Spectacle Theater, 124 South 3rd St. between Bedford Avenue and Berry Street in Williamsburg.

Women’s History Month Celebration: Join the Downtown Brooklyn Partnership for an all-day celebration of Women’s History Month. Register for a self-defense class led by Malikah, who focus on fighting against gender and hate-based violence, take in a performance by Brooklyn-based poet and rapper Nappy Nina, and enjoy drumming, dancing, and singing by Legacy Women, a performance group based in Afro-Caribbean traditions. Plus, take in an outdoor photo exhibition featuring women peace activists, learn basic sewing skills with Black Girls Sew, and take part in dance therapy led by Mujeres en Movimiento. Cap off the day with a visit to the Women Maker’s Show at City Point.

Free to attend, register for the self-defense class in advance. 12-4 pm. Albee Square at the corner of Fulton and Bond streets in Downtown Brooklyn. 

Brooklyn Spring Half Marathon: Celebrate the return of warmer days with a half-marathon through Brooklyn’s beautiful Prospect Park. Participants will be timed as they run four loops on the course, with water, sports drinks, and gels available as you run. All participants will get a t-shirt and a medal, while plaques will be handed out to the top three male and female runners and the top participants in each age group will celebrate with an awards ceremony. 

$99. Packet pick-up begins at 8am, race starts at 9. Meet at the Grecian Shelter in Prospect Park, enter at Parkside Avenue and Parade Place.

Sunday, March 20

Park Slope St. Patrick’s Day Parade: The 45th Annual Park Slope St. Patrick’s Day Parade is back for its 45th year. Brooklyn Parks Commissioner Martin Maher serves as the parade’s Grand Marshal following a parade day mass and dedication ceremony. The celebration will feature face-painting and arts-and-crafts for kids along with dance troupes and bands. 

Free to attend. Parade begins at 1 pm. Bartel-Pritchard Square at 14th Street and Prospect Park West in Park Slope.

Purim@Senesh: Parents and children up to 8 years old are invited to attend a kid’s Purim celebration at Hannah Senesh Community Day School. Make art inspired by the cultures of the Persian empire, sing and dance, take in a puppet show, and more.

$5 per person. 10 am-12 pm. Hannah Senesh Community Day School, 342 Smith Street between 2nd and Carroll Streets in Carroll Gardens.
